Can You Actually Go 17-0?

Short answer: yes, but it is rare by design. The perfect season is reachable with the right roster and a little luck. Here is how to give yourself the best shot.

Is 17-0 even possible?

Yes. A roster that maxes out every slot, anchored by an elite quarterback and with no glaring weakness, has a real shot at the perfect 17-0 season. But the engine's non-linear win curve makes the last couple of wins extremely costly, so even a stacked roster usually lands at 15-2 or 16-1. Hitting a true 17-0 should feel like making history — that is the whole point.

Tip 1: Lock down the quarterback

The quarterback is the most heavily weighted slot in the engine, and a weak one triggers a hard cap on your projected wins. When an elite passer rolls up early, take him — almost nothing else on the roster matters as much.

Tip 2: Win the trenches

Offensive line and edge rush are easy to skip for a flashy receiver, but the engine gates a roster with a soft line or no pass rush. Before you lock a skill-position pick, ask whether your trenches can hold up for seventeen weeks.

Tip 3: Don't forget the back seven

A leaky secondary or a thin linebacker corps is the kind of glaring weakness that caps a perfect season. Balance your defense — a complete roster beats a lopsided one with two stars and a hole.

Tip 4: Spend your skips early

You get one team skip and one era skip per game. A weak first-round roll is a hole you cannot climb out of later, so skip aggressively early. Hoarding both skips for your final pick usually means wasting them.

Tip 5: Test yourself with Gridiron IQ

Each pick must fill an open roster slot the player actually plays. Once you have the basics down, switch to Gridiron IQ mode — ratings hidden, drafting from memory — for the real test of how well you know NFL history.
